Eric Yuan, a Chinese born engineer is the CEO of Zoom. He was raised in china, interestingly, his parents were geology engineers. He has a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and a minor in computer application.
During his first year at the university, he took 10 hour train rides to visit his girlfriend Sherry. During these rides, he would think of easier ways to visit her, this inspired his interest in video telephony.
He got a master's degree in geology engineering and lived in Beijing afterwards. In the 90's, He attended a training program in Japan where Bill Gates spoke about the internet which lasted for 4 months. Inspired by this, he decided to go to the US as the internet had already become a thing there. He applied for a Visa to set out on his dreams in Silicon Valley, California.
Now Silicon Valley is a home to many start up and global tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google.
His visa was denied for a total of 8 times over a 2 years span. The good news came the 9th time, in 1997.
He worked with WebEx and Cisco before establishing zoom.
Today, he is the CEO of zoom, an American communications technology company that provides video telephony and online chat services like video communications, messaging, voice calls, Rooms, Events, contact centres and developer platforms.
Thanks to this great app, with the coming of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, its usage saw an incredible global increase during the lockdown period.
Eric Yuan's dream of video telephony did not only come to pass, zoom today is worth billions of dollars with over 2, 000 employees. He made a whooping sum of $12 billion during the pandemic.

Who would have known that one day a man who was worried about spending more time and connecting with his long distance girlfriend, taking 10 hour train rides to visit her, would invent an app such as this, In his worries came an idea which he worked on and never gave up, even with his visa rejection he kept on persisting, he never stopped.
At a time when thousands lost their jobs, Eric Yuan amassed a fortune of billions of dollars and oh! He is married to Sherry!!
