What to do to manage depression



Battling with depression? Here are 6 tips to help cope with it

1. Practice gratitude: Gratitude is an exercise that can change your life. It can help you see the good in difficult situations and find joy in everyday moments. What are the things you are grateful for, don't know? It may be your favourite cup, phone, face, smile just about anything you can think of. When you start from the little things,the list keeps growing. There are a lot of things to be grateful for, you just might not know it till you make conscious efforts to think them out. Remind yourself that you are blessed in so many ways. Gratitude dissolves anxiety and reassures you that somethings are actually working not like the thoughts that keep ringing in your head that everything is bad 


2. Journaling: This helps you keep track of your thoughts, what's causing you to think such thoughts, the patterns and feelings. If you're feeling sad it's because you are thinking sad thoughts, thoughts precede feelings and the moment you can control your thoughts, you win


3. Listening to happy songs: with depression most times you just want to wallow in that sad state by listening to sad songs because why not? when the artist sings what your emotions relate to, you think it's solace only to drown more and you just can't stop the tears from flowing listening to the lyrics. Try to avoid this by listening to songs that instead uplifts your spirit. 

4. Affirmations: As a man thinketh in his heart so he is. Positive affirmations build self esteem, it goes way above just saying those words. Affirming positive things remind you of your true self thereby building your confidence and trust that you got this!


5. Exercise: Exercise you know is good for the body not just physically but for mental wellness. During exercise, endorphins are hormones released by the body during pleasurable activities like eating, laughter, dancing, sex, massage and exercise isn't left out. They help improve one's mood, a reason it's important in managing depression.


6. Meditate: Meditation gives rise to mental and emotional calmness. It ensures mindfulness of a thought. This practice helps you relax and de-stress, a sure way to manage depression
