Inspired by Steve Harvey

We have all come across a video clip of this man, be it inspirational, tv presentation, movie and comedy, let's check out the story behind this multitalented man as my mum would say, every one has a story.

As a child, Steve had stuttering problem this may be hard to believe seeing today who he’s become, growing up he overcame this. He worked as a boxer, carpet cleaner, mail man, even as an insurance salesman. Although from a young age he had always wanted to be on TV, he held strongly to his dream. His family didn’t have much, they were 13 of them living in a one-bathroom house which they waited in line to take a bath. He graduated high school enrolled for university but dropped out a decision he says he regretted.

Steve married Marcia Harvey in 1981 and divorced in 1994 two years later he married Mary Shackelford and divorced again in 2005, in 2007, he married again this time to Marjorie Harvey and have 7 children together, 3 from his first marriage, 1 from his second marriage and Marjorie’s 3 children which Steve adopted.

In the early 80’s, Steve was homeless for 3 years, at 30 until 33, hard to believe right? In a tweet, said so on October 13, 2022

“one or two gigs fell through and suddenly I was homeless” he told people magazine in 2013. He slept in his car and shower at gas stations and swimming pool showers. In 1985, at 27 years old, he performed his first stand up comedy at a club and won the night contest and quit his job as an insurance salesman afterwards to focus on comedy saying "you have to jump and take the leap of faith in order to soar”. He was paid $25 per night.

Steve struggled for 8 years as a comedian, in 1993 he was offered TV exposure on Showtime At The Apollo but he was in Florida at the time and the shoot was in New York, he had just $35 “I started crying by the side of the road, I finally got my shot to be on tv and I can’t even get there”, call it a miracle but he got a call to do 2 stand up gigs in Florida that weekend and was paid just enough to cover his ticket to New York. That appearance led to a new job as host of the Showtime At The Apollo.
Steve was almost 40years old when his big break happened on The Steve Harvey Show in 1996 and has become one of the most successful Tv hosts and show business.

Steve starred in movies like love don’t cost a thing, you got served, Johnson family vacation and Madea goes to jail. He’s hosted showtime at the Apollo, family feud, celebrity family feud, the Steve Harvey show, miss universe and lots more. Steve is also a best-selling author, whose books have been translated to more than 30 languages in the world. I know most of you must have read or heard of the book Act like a lady, think like a man or better still, seen the movie in which he starred.
He has received a lot of awards and a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

you have to dream big and believe that you will succeed” Steve Harvey
